I've been a joiner for over 34 years having trained as an apprentice, going on to work in the shopfitting industry, ending up as site manager and contracts manager. Now I've returned to my core skills with my own joinery manufacturing business in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

For standard items I can't compete with the big boys like IKEA and B&Q – but I step in when bespoke joinery is required. To give an example – when people are looking for a bookcase – yes, fair enough, they can pick one up for £30 or £40 but if they want one to fit in a certain space – to look a certain way, that's where I come in with a price for a made to measure bookcase.
In other words, I make anything out of the ordinary that can't be bought off the shelf.
